Graduate of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana of Bogota, Colombia, Gabriel Eduardo Mena earned his doctoral degree in 1996 followed by postgraduate training in Clinical Clerkships: Neurology, Cardiology, Infectious Diseases, Dermatology at Brown University and Affiliated Hospitals in Providence, Rhode Island;Internal Medicine Internship, Regional Hospital of Duitama in Boyaca, Colombia; Community and Social Service at the Caribbean Clinic in Barranquilla, Colombia; Clinical Rotation in Obstetric and General Anesthesiology at Baylor College of Medicine at Ben Taub General Hospital in Houston, Texas; and Categorical Internship and Residency Training, Anesthesiology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
In April 2006, Dr. Mena was Board Certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology.
Gabriel Eduardo Mena, MD, has held academic appointments as Research Assistant, Assistant Professor, Speaker, Instructor, Co-director, Lecturer in Anesthesiology and is Professor Ad Honorem of Anesthesiology in the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery in the Antioquia University and San Vicente de Paul University in Medellin, Colombia.
He has been a Reviewer of the Anesthesiology Journal since 2007; his most recent work titled: “Continuous Popliteal-Sciatic Nerve Blocks for Postoperative Analgesia: Comparative Efficacy of Two Perineural Catheter Insertion Techniques”. His research, abstracts, manuals, and teachings aids have been published in many editorials and book chapters.
Dr. Mena’s work has earned him various honors and awards, such as the Clinical Clerkship Honors, Neurology, Cardiology & Infectious Diseases at Brown University in 1993 and The Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER) selected by Baylor College of Medicine Anesthesiology Chairman, Residency Director, & Faculty for Outstanding Scholastic Performance and Research at the ASA Annual Meeting in San Francisco.
