Professor Anupam Sibal joined Apollo Hospital, New Delhi as a Senior Consultant Pediatric Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist in 1997 after receiving training in Pediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology at the Institute of Child Health, Birmingham and Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
He helped set up the first successful liver transplant programme in India in 1998. In the last 2 years this unit has performed 344 liver transplants (40 pediatric and 304 adult) with 90% success. He is on the Editorial Board of 3 Journals and has 72 publications. He has served on the Executive Council of the International Pediatric Transplant Association, The Asian Pan Pacific Association of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition and the Commonwealth Association of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition and has lectured extensively in India and abroad.
In 2003, Dr. Sibal was elevated to the position of Medical Director of Apollo Hospital, Delhi. Dr. Sibal helped achieve the First International Accreditation of a hospital in India by Joint Commission International (JCI), USA in June 2005. Seven Apollo Hospitals are now JCI accredited.
Dr Sibal was appointed as the Group Medical Director of the Apollo Hospitals Group in 2005. Apollo now has 50 hospitals with 8000 beds across 5 countries. Dr. Anupam Sibal has been serving as a Joint Commission International Physician Surveyor since January 2008.
Dr. Sibal was appointed as Adjunct Professor of Pediatrics, School of Medicine, University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia in June 2009. In October 2009, he was appointed as the member of the Institute Body of the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, (PGIMER) Chandigarh. PGIMER has consistently been ranked in the top 3 public academic health institutes in India.
